창세기10장의 전체적 설명에 따르면 야벳이 장자고 중간이 함이고 막내가 셈으로 보인다. 그러면 왜? 창세기10장1절엔 셈이 가장먼저 등장하나? 그것은 셈이 약속의 씨(아브라함에게 언급되었던 약속의씨)의 연계에 있어서 가장 주요한 연계가 되는 인물이기 때문인것으로 보인다. 다음 참조성구들과 바이블허브를 통해 분석해 본 결과는 혼돈 그자체다. 역대상1장의 족보역시 4절에서는 순서가 1)셈2)함 3)야벳으로 되어있으나, 전체적인후손들을 소개할때는 야벳의후손들이 가장먼저 상세히 소개되고, 둘째로는 함의 후손들이 맨마지막으로는 셈의후손들이 소개된다. 따라서, 야벳이 장자이고 막내가 셈으로 보여진다. 반면에 창세기10장21절의 신세계역번역은 다음과 같다. "Children were also born to Shem, the forefather of all the sons of Eber and the brother of Japheth the oldest" -- 여기 번역은 야벳이 가장 나이가 많은 장자로 표시되어있다. 같은구절을 희랍어70인역의 2001 번역은 다음과 같다.

"When Noah woke up from his wine and learned what his youngest son had done to him, 25 he said......"----------------------다음:희랍어70인역의 2001영어번역내용:
24 Well, after Noah recovered from the wine, he realized what his son had done to him. -----------------------------------------------여길보면 노아의 아들 함이 언급되어있지 않다. 반면에 신세계역은 노아의 가장 나이어린아들 "youngest son"이라고 써있다.--물론 여기구절엔 함이란이름이 없다. 허나 문맥의 흐름상 함을 두고 가장어린아들이라고 표현한것으로 보인다. 따라서 신세계역의 창세기 10장21절과 9장24절을 비교 검토해보면, 가장 나이가 많은 사람은 야벳이고, 막내는 함이므로 셈은 중간에 위치한다!! 반면에 희랍어70인역의 2001역에 따르면 창세기 10장1절은 다음과 같다. 1 Now, these are the generations of the sons of Noah: Shem, Ham, and JaPheth. And these are the sons that were born to them after the Downpour:-----------따라서 신세계역에따르면 노아의 세아들의 순서는다음과같다. (첫째아들 야벳/ 2째아들 셈/막내아들 함)------------2001영어번역에 따르면 (셈이 야벳보다 형이고, 함의 위치는 명확하지 않다!).
